Sam

Hi, I’m Sam. I’ve just moved here. I like gardening, but I don’t know many people yet.

Your model reply

What do you like to grow?

Sam

I like growing herbs. What’s your name?

Your model reply

My name’s Alex. I’m new here, too.

Sam

I’d like to meet a few neighbours. I’m free on Saturday afternoon.

Your model reply

Would you like to come to the garden welcome afternoon on Saturday?

Sam

That sounds good. Is it at two o’clock by the garden gate?

Your model reply

Yes, two o’clock on Saturday by the garden gate.

1. Which sentence is a friendly invitation that lets the other person choose?

A2 practice

See the answer and why

The answer is “Would you like to come to the garden on Saturday?” “Would you like to…?” offers an invitation. It does not assume that the other person has already agreed.

2. You agreed on Friday at six thirty outside the café. Your new friend says “inside”. Which reply clarifies the place without changing the time?

B1 practice

See the answer and why

The answer is “Outside the café, not inside. I’ll see you at six thirty on Friday.” The reply explicitly repairs the location and repeats the agreed day and time. A precise clarification prevents a practical misunderstanding.
